With cooking it can be okay if you don't follow the recipe exactly or add more or less of something (with some exceptions like rice, it has to be 2:1 ratio no ifs, ands, or buts). With baking, if it calls for 1/4 teaspoon baking powder you better add 1/4 t... not 1/2 or 1/8. It is exact.
A few weeks ago Steven and I made cookies from scratch. They were very good.. and fun! I also want to learn how to bake a cake and make frosting from scratch. I'm sure it's not very hard. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with box mixes, but I'd like to try and make a cake myself.
So I'll get out my mixing bowl... but where did I put the measuring cup?

We want you to learn to bake too! Yum-o! And, you know, it's not just desserts -- there are lots of main dishes you can bake.
Cornbread, cornbread, cornbread, and cornbread. These are four of the best projects to practice on.
Happy baking!
Haha I like Daddy's advice on baking!
And I also like the new layout!!
Thanks, I like it too. :-)
It didn't take my comment from last night for some reason...
So, take two:
Yummy.... I have a recipe for cream cheese frosting. I will have to dig it out for ya and post it. Seems easy.
Also... let me know when you make some carrot cake, I will be happy to help eat it. :o)
I was thinking about where I've seen good homemade cake recipes... And ya know who has some good ones?
Ina!! LOL!
I know!! She has good pie and tart recipes too.
I was going to leave a long message, but I'll post about her tomorrow instead, lol.
